Embarking on a New Journey
When I started my blog, Legal Nomads, back in 2008, the initial idea was simply to keep my friends and family updated on my travels around the world after I decided to take a break from my legal career. Little did I know that a year would turn into several! I didn’t want my blog to be cluttered with ads like many others, so I made a commitment to keep it clean and focused on the content I love writing the most.
Even though many people told me it was a foolish idea that wouldn’t make money and that I was missing out on numerous opportunities, I wanted to keep Legal Nomads as a keepsake of my personal experiences and the things I found fascinating.
Unexpected Challenges
At the beginning of 2022, CNN published my article about my experience with a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. It was a challenging journey both physically and mentally. I hoped that my story would help raise awareness about the symptoms of this condition and encourage others to seek the help they need.
I was deeply moved to see my article featured on CNN's homepage for an entire weekend, and I noticed that many people resonated with my story. It truly was an emotional week!

We Have a Lemur!
One sunny day, while I was in the shower, the idea struck me to adopt a lemur from the Duke Lemur Center. I’ve always been captivated by lemurs, and I regretted not visiting them in Madagascar before my health declined.
I decided to share this idea on social media, and as a result, 31 people joined me in raising $750 to adopt a Coquerel's sifaka and an aye-aye from the center. Following their updates has brought me so much joy amid the anxiety of everyday life.
Joining a Supportive Community
In addition to adopting a lemur, I also joined the patient council of the CSF Leak Organization to contribute to research on this condition. This community has been incredibly supportive, and I feel happy to be able to give back to them.
A New Life in Ottawa
After a year living in Aylmer, Quebec, I relocated to Ottawa. My new home is close to the water, just an 8-minute drive from my brother's house, and it really suits my current health situation. While I still face many limitations due to my illness, I’m enjoying rare moments of peace in nature.
Life can be tough, but I feel like I’m gradually reclaiming my vitality, even though many challenges still lie ahead. Watching the fall colors in Ottawa is a true delight, and every slow step I take fills my heart with joy.
