Introduction to the Flight
This year, I had the chance to fly with Porter Airlines from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Montreal (YUL). This flight was part of a longer journey to Bangkok via Paris, and I was eager to discover what makes this airline special.
Porter Airlines is rapidly growing in Canada, boasting a modern fleet of Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. I decided to try their PorterReserve service, which they advertise as a "premium economy" experience. However, I think this description is a bit modest, as my experience was truly excellent.
Booking Process
To start, I booked my ticket through the Alaska Atmos Rewards program, which required just 10,000 points plus $5.60 for taxes and fees. I flew on flight PD572, departing at 12:50 PM and arriving in Montreal at 4:23 PM.
The ticket prices are quite reasonable. If I had purchased my ticket outright, it would have cost about $182 for the PorterClassic service and $300 for PorterReserve. So using points was definitely a great deal!
Check-In and Boarding Process
I checked in online, which was super convenient. This airline operates from Terminal 3 at Fort Lauderdale Airport. The security process was quite swift, and I headed straight to gate E9 without any hassle.

Boarding was right on schedule, with PorterReserve customers given priority. It felt really nice to have a separate line for boarding.
Inside the Aircraft
The Embraer E195-E2 has 132 seats arranged in a 2-2 configuration. The interior space is genuinely spacious, especially since there are no middle seats, making it more comfortable for passengers. The PorterReserve cabin features 16 seats with a generous legroom of 36 inches, compared to the standard 30 inches.
The seats also come with foldable tables and document holders in front. The only minor downside is the absence of USB charging ports, but there are AC power outlets available between the seats.
In-Flight Service
While there are no TVs or personal entertainment systems, I really appreciated the free Wi-Fi provided through the VIPorter program. Once registered, I could access Wi-Fi on multiple devices. Even if I didn’t have time to register, I still enjoyed 30 minutes of complimentary access.
Flight Experience
The flight was quite full, but boarding went smoothly and on time. At exactly 12:50 PM, the pilot announced that our flight would take 3 hours and 15 minutes, cruising at an altitude of 35,000 feet. Everything went seamlessly, and after takeoff, I had the chance to admire the stunning views of South Florida.
Food and Beverage
The in-flight dining service was also impressive. I was provided with a menu featuring a variety of food and drink options that far exceeded what I've experienced on other economy flights.
Overall, Porter Airlines left me impressed with the quality of service and comfort throughout this journey. If given the opportunity, I will definitely choose Porter Airlines as my airline of choice for future travels!
