A Culinary Adventure at Kiang Kiang Taiwan Teppanyaki
Over a decade ago, I stumbled upon the Shihlin Night Market in Taipei, where I discovered a quaint little eatery serving sizzling hot Western-style steak on a plate. So when I heard that Kiang Kiang Taiwan Teppanyaki was bringing a similar experience to Singapore, I couldn't resist the chance to try it once more.
A Vibrant Kitchen in Woodlands
Located at 325 Woodlands Street 32, this charming restaurant is run by chef Duncan Hsu and his wife, Cherry Tan. Duncan has a rich background in various hotels in Taipei, while Cherry previously worked as a flight attendant for Singapore Airlines. With a chuckle, she mentioned that they chose this location because it was "close to home and the rent wasn't too high."
Watching Duncan, Cherry, and their assistant bustling around in the kitchen, I was genuinely impressed by their professionalism. Duncan's commitment to food quality was reminiscent of being in the middle of an episode of Hell’s Kitchen!
Signature Dishes at Kiang Kiang
Starting with the priciest item on the menu, the Australian ribeye steak (SGD 13.50), I was far from disappointed. The meat was tender and flavorful, served alongside teppanyaki noodles and black pepper sauce. This combination was simply perfect, although some cuts required a bit more chewing due to the marbling.

Next up was the pork ribs (SGD 9.50). The meat was succulent and aromatic, paired with a mushroom sauce and basil. While the basil flavor wasn’t overly pronounced, it blended beautifully to create a delightful dining experience.
A Light Finish with Halibut
Finally, I savored the halibut (SGD 13.50), accompanied by short-grain rice, teppanyaki vegetables, and a mushroom-pepper sauce. Halibut is often compared to a more affordable version of cod, and I completely agree! The fish was sweet and tender—an absolute delight.
Initial Success and Future Plans
Though there are a few areas for improvement, Kiang Kiang Taiwan Teppanyaki is definitely on the right track. Duncan shared that Western-style dishes served hot on a plate are gradually disappearing in Taipei, and he hopes to preserve this culinary tradition. To further their ambitions, he and Cherry have recently opened another branch in Bedok.
With prices ranging from SGD 8.50 to SGD 13.50 per person, it’s a fantastic deal considering the quality. This spot is undoubtedly worth a visit for anyone who loves Taiwanese cuisine and Western flavors!
