Brands Tested

The tasting team started with familiar Greek yogurt brands and expanded to include options from supermarkets, such as Good & Gather from Target and Greek Gods, which were previously untested. We also sampled skyr, a yogurt type that closely resembles Greek yogurt. To keep the taste test fair, we excluded low-fat varieties, flavored yogurts, and products with added protein or made from plant-based milk.

How We Tasted Yogurt

Our editors have strong opinions about Greek yogurt, so to ensure fairness, we removed labels and divided the yogurt samples into identical bowls. We tasted each one separately, scooping them onto plates to evaluate thickness before indulging.

Evaluation Criteria

Wallaby offers a yogurt with only two ingredients: live cultures and organic pasteurized milk. What sets it apart? Unlike many other yogurts that have strong sour or creamy profiles, Wallaby delivers a light, pure, and sweet experience, along with its signature smoothness.

Notable Brand: Stonyfield

Stonyfield stands out with yogurt made primarily from milk and active cultures, emphasizing organic production processes. The first tasting had tasters raving about its rich creaminess and bright flavor, showcasing an excellent balance between sweet and savory.

Favorite Yogurt: Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s offers two types of strained yogurt: thick Greek yogurt and whole milk yogurt. This tasting revealed a significant improvement from previous experiences, with the tasting team finding this yogurt to be richer and more harmoniously tangy. Previously criticized for being runny, this time, Trader Joe’s yogurt impressed everyone with its smoothness and gentle sour flavor.

Other Brands Tested

We also sampled 365 Organic Greek Yogurt and Cabot Whole Milk Plain Greek Yogurt, but they didn’t impress as much as the brands mentioned above. 365 Organic had a slightly cheesy taste, while Cabot fell short of our expectations for a Greek yogurt.
