Embracing the Chill at Living Skies Lodge, Saskatchewan
As I stepped into the icy waters, I almost turned back. It felt as if my whole body was protesting, and a part of me wondered why I had willingly submerged myself in such cold. But then, the women around me began to offer their support, encouraging me with laughter and camaraderie. Their warmth made me feel less alone in that moment. Once my breath steadied, I realized this trip was not just about yoga or wellness trends; it was about learning to accept discomfort and understanding that we don’t face challenges alone.
Experiencing Living Skies Lodge
Located just outside Carlyle, Saskatchewan, Living Skies Lodge, run by the lovely couple Deb and Blair Andrew, is far from your typical getaway. They welcome guests into their cozy wooden home, surrounded by the vast prairie landscape, miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I discovered this gem while on a work trip and couldn’t resist returning. It wasn’t just the stunning scenery that drew me back, but also the genuine warmth and enthusiasm of Deb and Blair. They are not just hosts; they are friends who make you feel like part of their family.
The Birth of Grounded Wellness Retreat
When I heard Deb talk about her first retreat scheduled for 2026, my curiosity piqued. In a wellness world filled with noise, promises, and products, I found myself wondering who this retreat was really for. After an insightful weekend, I realized it’s not about the latest health trends but about self-discovery and growth in a safe, supportive environment.

Why Saskatchewan?
This retreat is inspired by Deb’s personal journey of growth and her desire to share the transformative power of self-exploration, yoga, and mindfulness. Deb shared, “When I experienced the changes that come with personal development, I just wanted to share that.” The retreat offers a holistic experience that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit, helping participants gain a deeper understanding of themselves.
Local Cuisine and Shared Meals
Throughout the weekend, each meal was carefully crafted with local ingredients. From overnight oats topped with coconut yogurt and fresh fruit to lentil soups, goose lasagna, and even tempeh alternatives, every dish was not only delicious but also served as a wonderful opportunity for the group to gather, chat, and connect.
Kolbe Assessment and Self-Discovery
Before the retreat, we took a Kolbe assessment to uncover our natural action modes. Deb guided the group through understanding our results, which included types like ‘fact finder’ and ‘quick start’. I learned so much about myself and why I chose the path of digital storytelling as a career.
Grounding in the Greenhouse: Yoga, Earth, and Sustainable Living
The greenhouse at the retreat felt like a vibrant heartbeat amid the frigid Saskatchewan winter. Built with the aim of sustainable living, it’s not just a place for growing plants; it’s a sanctuary for finding peace. We kicked off our shoes, walked barefoot, and connected with the earth. Practicing yoga in the warm ambiance of the greenhouse was a refreshing and incredibly enjoyable experience.
