Expanding Horizons and New Investments

Royal Jordanian Airlines is embarking on an ambitious expansion and is eager to enhance its customer experience. Recently, the airline unveiled a brand new business class seat for its long-haul flights. Just last week, they took delivery of their first aircraft equipped with this new interior, marking an exciting new chapter for the Amman-based carrier.

Introducing the New Business Class Seat

Currently, Royal Jordanian's wide-body fleet consists of seven Boeing 787-8 aircraft. The airline has also ordered six Boeing 787-9s, which will nearly double their long-haul capacity. The first of these new aircraft has been delivered and is registered as JY-RBA.

This new 787-9 features a total of 312 seats, including 32 in business class and 280 in economy. However, this is just part of the airline's fleet modernization plan, as they also intend to acquire additional new aircraft from Airbus and Embraer.

Previous Customer Experience

Previously, the experience on Royal Jordanian's 787-8 was not highly regarded. The airline did not offer Wi-Fi on these aircraft, and the business class seats were Collins Aerospace Diamond seats configured in a 2-2-2 layout. For long-haul flights, this was not the level of product that customers expected.

Promising Changes Ahead

However, all of this is set to change soon. Not only is Royal Jordanian enhancing the passenger experience on their newly received 787-9s, but they also plan to upgrade their 787-8s to the same standards through a refurbishment program. Below are images and videos showcasing Royal Jordanian's new business class cabin.

New Business Class Cabin

The first 787-9 has just landed in Amman (AMM) and is expected to start service on April 7, 2026 (though this date may be subject to change). Currently, the aircraft is slated to operate flight RJ111 to London (LHR) on that day.

What Seat Product Did They Choose?

The question arises: which product has Royal Jordanian selected for their new business class? Clearly, this is a reverse herringbone seat design, likely sourced from Collins Aerospace, the airline’s previous business class seat supplier. From the images, it appears to be the Collins Aerospace Elements seat, the latest and greatest offering from this manufacturer.

Comparison with Other Products

This product resembles the seats found in the business class cabin of Starlux on their A350. Evidence of this can be seen in the curvature of the seat shell, which is quite similar to that model. This is a notable departure from the Collins Aerospace Super Diamond seats, the previous generation product you would find in Etihad's business class on the A350.

Conclusion

Royal Jordanian is gearing up for a significant overhaul in its service. The airline is welcoming several new aircraft, including the Boeing 787-9, and the first Dreamliner has been delivered, featuring a new business class that will be installed across their entire Dreamliner fleet. Based on the available information, it seems that Royal Jordanian has chosen the Collins Aerospace Elements product, a fantastic choice for their passengers.
