Kufstein – A Medieval Village

Kufstein is a small town nestled by the Inn River in the Tyrolean Alps. It is the second-largest town in Tyrol, following Innsbruck. One of Kufstein's standout attractions is the Kufstein Fortress, built in the 13th century, which towers over the town. Inside the fortress is the Heldenorgel, known as the largest outdoor organ in the world.

When visiting Kufstein, don't forget to stroll along Romerhofgasse, a charming pathway in the town center that feels like stepping into a fairy tale.

Bad Gastein – The Hot Springs Town

The word “Bad” translates to “spa,” and Bad Gastein is famous for its healing mineral springs. The waters here were studied by Marie Curie and other scientists, who found that it contains radon, believed to alleviate symptoms of conditions like arthritis.

Situated in a narrow valley and also a ski resort, Bad Gastein boasts Belle Époque architecture and a stunning waterfall right in the town center. Here, you can enjoy a fun-filled winter season or partake in summer activities like hiking and biking.

Heiligenblut – The Sacred Village

Heiligenblut, meaning “Holy Blood,” is said to house a vial of Christ's blood. The church, constructed in 1271, attracts many pilgrims eager to see this sacred relic. This village is also the starting point for the famous Grossglockner High Alpine Road, known for its breathtaking scenery and is the highest road in Austria.

Lienz, known as the Jewel of the Dolomites, is located in Tyrol province, near the Italian border. With an average of 2000 hours of sunshine each year, Lienz is one of Austria's sunniest towns. It is also close to Hohe Tauern National Park, one of Europe’s largest nature reserves.

Lienz impresses with its historic town center and the Osttirodler Alpine Coaster, where you can experience the thrill of racing down the mountainside.

Millstatt – The Lakeside Village

The picturesque village of Millstatt lies on the shores of Lake Millstatter See, the second largest lake in Carinthia. In summer, the warm weather and lake waters make activities like boating and swimming very popular. Every summer, the Millstatt Music Week takes place, where visitors can enjoy concerts and performances by international musicians.

Don’t forget to check out the Benedictine Millstatt Abbey, built in 1070, one of the significant Romanesque structures in Carinthia.

Maria Alm – The Luxurious Resort

Maria Alm, located in the Hochkonig region, is a famous ski resort that attracts many celebrities, including Formula 1 driver Keke Rosberg and former German President Walter Scheel. However, if you visit in summer, you can indulge in activities like biking or hiking. The village also serves as the starting point for the Almer Wallfahrt pilgrimage, which leads through the Berchtesgaden mountains.

St. Wolfgang – The Pilgrimage Home

St. Wolfgang is situated at the foot of Schafberg mountain and beside Lake Wolfgang, featuring a beautiful church that dates back to the 14th century. This church is believed to be a stop for St. Wolfgang, the Bishop of Regensburg, on his pilgrimage from the tomb of St. Wolfgang in Regensburg to the village of St. Wolfgang.

The church also houses the altar by Michael Pacher, considered one of the most important Gothic artworks in Austria, making it an ideal location for activities like skiing, hiking, or cycling.

Seefeld in Tyrol – An Outdoor Lover's Paradise

If you love outdoor activities, Seefeld in Tyrol is the perfect destination for you. Located on a high plateau in Tyrol, this village is known as one of the best cross-country skiing centers in Austria. It hosted the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976.

Seefeld in Tyrol is also considered the climbing capital of Austria with plenty of exciting activities like golfing and mountain biking. Just 18 km from Innsbruck, Seefeld is an ideal stop for a day trip.

Gmunden – A Charming Destination by Lake Traun

Gmunden, located by the picturesque Lake Traun and surrounded by beautiful mountains, is a great spot for weekend getaways or day trips from Salzburg. The town is famous for its 19th-century villas and castles, including Schloss Ort, which sits on an island in the middle of Lake Traun.

Gmunden also attracts many hiking enthusiasts, with the challenging Grunberg mountain nearby. If climbing isn’t your thing, you can take the newly opened Grunberg Mountain cable car from 2014 to the top. The town is also known for its ceramics, so be sure to look for these as souvenirs.

Zell am See – A Stunning Town by the Lake

Zell am See lies beside Lake Zell, in the heart of the Austrian Alps. A popular winter resort, this town is also an ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding area in summer, whether by bike or on foot. Notably, a new climbing destination has recently been added for hiking enthusiasts, known as via ferrata.
