Kickstarting My Journey in Macau
My month-long adventure began in Macau, a place where the echoes of Portuguese history resonate through its architecture and culture. To escape the hustle and bustle, I chose to stay at the Caravel Hotel. Strolling around the hotel, I could clearly feel the captivating contrast between the ancient and modern aspects of Macau.
On my first day, I visited the iconic Ruins of St. Paul's, a must-see landmark. To avoid the crowds, I arrived early in the morning, leisurely snapping photos and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. If you can, make sure to return in the evening to see this site shimmering under the lights.
Hong Kong: A Fusion of East and West
After exploring Macau, I continued my journey to Hong Kong. The vibrancy of this city truly overwhelmed me. Spending a few nights there allowed me to experience the Kowloon area and savor delicious dim sum at local restaurants.
Don’t forget to head up to The Peak for a breathtaking view of the city – it’s an experience you simply cannot miss when in Hong Kong.
An Adventure Through Guangzhou and Guilin
Leaving Hong Kong behind, I made my way to Guangzhou, a city rich in both ancient charm and modernity. A must-visit spot is Yuexiu Park, home to the famous Five Rams statue. And if you’re a foodie, don’t miss out on the Peking duck here – it’s quite a treat!

Next, I traveled to Guilin, renowned for its stunning karst mountain ranges. Boarding a boat along the Li River, I was utterly enchanted by the picturesque scenery unfolding on both banks.
Lijiang and Shangri-La: A Natural Cinematic Experience
The journey led me to Lijiang, a historic city with charming ancient architecture and quaint canals. Walking along the cobblestone streets, I felt as if I had stepped back in time. Be sure to visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, a truly impressive sight.
From Lijiang, I continued to Shangri-La, a place often described as a heavenly paradise. The climate here is cool and fresh, and the breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains are simply stunning.
Chengdu and Zhangjiajie: The Grand Finale
The final leg of my journey took me to Chengdu and Zhangjiajie. Chengdu captivated me with its adorable pandas and famous spicy hot pot. After spending a few days here, I moved on to Zhangjiajie, home to the renowned National Forest Park.
While there, don’t miss the Tianmen Mountain with its glass walkway perched precariously along the cliffside. The breathtaking landscapes here will forever be etched in my memory.
