Discovering the Enchanting Mountains of Zhangjiajie!
If you're a fan of the movie Avatar, then Zhangjiajie should definitely be on your travel list. This breathtaking destination is said to have inspired the stunning landscapes featured in the film. I’ve visited twice, nearly a decade apart, and I can honestly say the beauty of this place is astonishing. Standing atop the mountains in the early morning, gazing down at the drifting sea of clouds, is an indescribable experience.
When you arrive, you'll find countless walking trails to explore. Just veer off a bit from the main paths, and you can easily escape the crowds. Additionally, there are many interesting spots nearby, such as Tianmen Mountain and the ancient town of Fenghuang, which is only about a 25-minute train ride away.
How to Navigate Zhangjiajie National Park Without Getting Lost
If you've ever felt confused by a park map, don’t worry—I’ve been lost a few times myself! That’s why I’ve put together this guide. Here, you’ll find detailed information on the must-visit spots, how to get around, and suggested itineraries.
Where to Stay in Zhangjiajie?
When considering accommodation, you have two main options: near Zhangjiajie National Park or in the city of Zhangjiajie. If you plan to explore the park first, it’s best to stay in Wulingyuan Town. Here are a few hotel recommendations:
- Budget: Xiyuan Hostel
- Mid-range: A Journey with Mountain, Wind & Hope
- Luxury: FUNGEE S Hotel
After your time in the park, I suggest spending at least one or two nights in the city of Zhangjiajie to explore Tianmen Mountain and the surrounding attractions. Here are some options:
✈️ Tìm chuyến bay giá tốt
Đặt vé ngay với giá ưu đãi từ các hãng hàng không
- Budget: Yunmengqi Boutique Inn
- Mid-range: YICenXinSu Guesthouse
- Luxury: WYNDHAM GARDEN ZHANGJIAJIE
What Not to Miss in Zhangjiajie?
Take the Cable Car Up Tianzi Mountain
Start your adventure with a cable car ride up Tianzi Mountain. This is an experience you won’t want to miss. I visited on a cool November morning and was lucky enough to avoid long lines. The cable car fare is around 72 CNY (approximately 10 USD).
Entrance to Zhangjiajie National Park costs about 227 CNY for a four-day ticket. Remember, the park is open from 7 AM to 5 PM, so arriving early gives you easier access to spots like Helong Park.
Explore Helong Park
Perched on Tianzi Mountain, Helong Park is the perfect place to admire the unique shapes of the mountains. One highlight is the King of Paintbrush Peak, which resembles the tip of a paintbrush. If you arrive early, you might even catch the sunrise over the Fairy Scattering Flower Mountains—an unforgettable experience.
Discover Yangjiajie Mountain
After soaking in the views at Helong Park, hop on a bus to Yangjiajie Mountain. Here, you can visit attractions like Tianbo Mansion, which offers stunning panoramic views.
Conclude Your Journey in Fenghuang Ancient Town
After exploring every nook and cranny of the park, I highly recommend spending at least one night in Fenghuang Ancient Town. The scenery here is romantic and enchanting, especially at night when the twinkling lights reflect on the water.
