Discovering Say Yes Cafe: An Affordable Gem with Top-Notch Nasi Lemak
When I first heard about Say Yes Cafe in Damansara Uptown, I was immediately intrigued. This little eatery has been highly praised for its nasi lemak, which is said to rival the famous Village Park Restaurant and Nasi Lemak Bumbung.
Considering the tricky parking situation in Damansara Uptown, I was pleasantly surprised to find Say Yes Cafe just a short stroll away from Village Park. Tucked between a bak kut teh shop and a Perodua dealership, it’s quite easy to spot.
Arriving around lunchtime, my friend and I were lucky enough to snag a table right under a cooling fan. The cafe has a cozy vibe, adorned in soft shades of green, reminiscent of charming old-school coffee shops.
A Simple Yet Tempting Menu
After browsing through the menu, which features just three main dishes: Nasi Lemak, Pulut, and Chee Cheong Fun, I quickly made my choice. I opted for the Nasi Lemak Rendang Daging (RM11) and a small glass of Teh Ping (RM3.90), which arrived in no time—about five minutes later!
When my dish was placed before me, it was a delightful sight: fragrant coconut rice, a boiled egg, a few slices of cucumber, roasted peanuts, and a generous spoonful of sambal. The highlight was the plate of rendang daging, beautifully coated in a rich sauce.
Quality Flavors at Say Yes Cafe
My hunger got the best of me, and I mixed everything together to dive right in. Taking a bite of the rendang, I was genuinely impressed by how tender the meat was and the robust flavor of the sauce, with just the right amount of heat—a definite plus!

The meat was perfectly cooked, retaining the sweetness from the rendang sauce, delivering a rich experience bursting with flavors. The sambal was sweet and spicy, just how I like it—not overly oily or thick, making it incredibly easy to enjoy.
A Memorable Teh Ping
To top it all off, the Teh Ping was just as delightful as any kopitiam I had visited before. The balance of tea, sugar, and ice was spot on, making it an excellent accompaniment to my Nasi Lemak. I found myself finishing my meal faster than my dining companion!
My Friend's Take on the Roti Bakar
Next, my friend ordered the Roti Bakar with butter and kaya (RM3) along with a glass of Cham Ping (RM4.30). Arriving a bit later than my dish, their reaction to the toast was quite entertaining.
They commented that the bread was toasted to a perfect crisp and tasted great, but there wasn’t quite enough butter and kaya as they had hoped. Specifically, the butter was only spread in the middle, which meant that when they bit into the edges, there was no buttery flavor, while the center was overwhelmed with a large chunk of butter.
Wrapping Up a Delightful Meal
In the end, my friend mentioned that having a spoonful of kaya on the side helped them enjoy dipping into the unbuttered parts. The Cham Ping was also a fantastic addition to their meal, as they absolutely love that drink.
In summary, Say Yes Cafe is a spot worth trying, especially for their nasi lemak, which certainly holds its own against Village Park. While the menu may be a bit limited, this cafe is a perfect stop for an afternoon tea or a quick meal.
Lastly, if you’re on the lookout for delicious local eateries, Say Yes Cafe is definitely a place you shouldn’t miss!
