Recently, I had the opportunity to stay at Capella Hotels & Resorts, and I was truly impressed by this brand. Although Capella has a small collection of hotels, each one is exceptional and often ranks among the best in its location.

Capella primarily focuses on the Asia-Pacific region, but they are set to expand beyond this area next year. I can't wait to see how that unfolds! Additionally, Capella boasts an interesting loyalty program that further enhances the guest experience.

Highlights of Capella

In recent years, Capella has built an impressive reputation without needing the widespread presence of its competitors. While I’m not too concerned about rankings, it’s worth noting that the Capella brand and its hotels have garnered numerous awards, clearly deserving of their accolades.

The story of Capella is quite fascinating, founded in 2001 by Horst Schulze, who also co-founded Ritz-Carlton in 1983. In 2017, Schulze transferred Capella to the Kwee family in Singapore, marking a significant transition for the brand.

Unique Design and Quality Service

Each Capella hotel features a distinct design that sets it apart from the others. I particularly admire how Capella embraces a bold vision and fosters a deeper connection with local communities and cultures compared to many other hotel chains. The staff members are referred to as “Culturists” and participate in activities that celebrate local culture.

Capella’s restaurants and bars are also quite famous, aiming to attract both locals and travelers. Each property includes a “living room” area where guests can mingle, enjoy non-alcoholic drinks and coffee throughout the day, and indulge in alcoholic beverages and snacks in the evening.

List of Capella Hotels

Currently, Capella operates 10 properties worldwide, all located in the Asia-Pacific region. However, the brand plans to expand significantly in the coming years, with new hotels opening in Elanan, Florence, Kenting, Nanjing, Riyadh, and Shenzhen.

The lack of geographical diversity in their collection isn’t a major concern, as the Asia-Pacific region is fantastic for the hospitality industry, allowing Capella to maintain outstanding properties.

Capella Singapore

Capella Singapore is situated on Sentosa Island, opened in 2009, and is built on the site of a structure from the 1880s that once housed British troops. With 112 rooms, suites, villas, and expansive gardens, Capella Singapore offers a wonderful retreat experience. In 2024, the hotel was recognized as one of the top 50 hotels in the world, ranking 33rd on the list.

Capella Bangkok

Capella Bangkok opened in 2020 along the Chao Phraya River, featuring 101 rooms and suites, all boasting stunning views of the water. The hotel’s location is ideal, situated next to Bangkok's historic riverside area. A standout feature is the riverside villas with private pools, where guests can enjoy privacy and relaxation.

Capella Ubud, Bali

Capella Ubud features only 23 tents, each with its own saltwater pool, catering primarily to couples. The resort opened in 2018 and is designed to elevate the camping experience amidst the forest canopy, providing a luxurious glamping experience. With an outdoor gym, spa, and a beautiful main pool nestled among the trees, it’s a perfect destination for nature lovers.

Capella Shanghai

Capella Shanghai is located in a collection of restored shikumen townhouses in the former French Concession. With 55 villas and suites, each room includes a private courtyard, featuring a blend of Chinese and European design elements. The hotel also offers French cuisine and a spa, providing guests with a relaxing retreat in the heart of the city.

Capella Tufu Bay, Hainan

Capella Tufu Bay, opened in 2019, is a modern beachfront resort on the southeastern coast of Hainan Island, China. With 190 rooms, suites, and villas, all offering views of the South China Sea, the resort emphasizes wellness and sports activities, providing guests with fantastic coastal experiences.

I truly enjoyed what Capella has built and continues to create. With a clear vision and innovative design, they are crafting memorable lodging experiences for every guest. It’s time for me to plan a visit to other Capella hotels, as I am genuinely impressed by this brand!
