Dive into the flavorful world of Masala Chicken Noodles, a dish that evokes childhood memories with its spicy warmth. Is this the perfect meal for you? Let's find out!
Introducing Masala Chicken Noodles
This morning, I woke up with a craving for something spicy and soupy, and of course, noodles were a must! That's why I decided to head to Teban Gardens Food Centre to indulge in Masala Chicken Noodles. Despite the sweltering heat, with temperatures soaring to 35°C, I was determined to satisfy my craving. The food centre seemed a bit out of the way, but I walked about 500 meters from the bus stop to get there.
Upon arrival, I met a friendly Chinese uncle who explained that the stall was named after the spice masala, a hallmark of Indian flavors often found in curries. This piqued my curiosity even more—would I truly taste the masala in the dish?
The Flavor of Masala Chicken Noodles
I ordered the Masala Chicken Noodles for 5.50 SGD, and I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion! As soon as it arrived at my table, I couldn't resist sampling the enticing orange curry broth, which was thick and creamy—a delightful change from the curry noodles I usually have. The flavor was decent but seemed to lack depth, probably due to insufficient spices. Although it was rich and spicy, it felt somewhat uniform and lacked the complexity that comes with a variety of spices.
Masala typically brings sweetness and warmth, but I didn't quite experience that in this bowl of noodles. The taste reminded me of the curry noodles I used to enjoy in elementary and middle school, just spicier.
The Chicken & Other Ingredients
I was quite impressed with the chicken portion. There were four sizable pieces, each thick and meaty, just as shown in the picture. Most of it was chicken breast, which I didn't mind since I usually prefer lean meat. For those who aren't fond of breast meat, the curry sauce adds moisture to the large chunks, keeping them tender and easy to eat.

The yellow noodles weren't my favorite choice, but they are the default here. The usual alkaline flavor of the noodles wasn't too overpowering, likely because the curry sauce dominated.
A Unique Experience with Masala Chicken Noodles
Honestly, every spoonful of this dish made me feel warm all over. I consider myself fairly tolerant of spice, but as I kept eating, a burning sensation began to stir in my stomach. It was exciting yet slightly overwhelming—perhaps this is what many food enthusiasts adore.
In the bowl, there were two large pieces of potato, some bean sprouts, and three pieces of fried tofu—perhaps my favorite part! They soaked up the delicious, warming sauce, and as I bit into them, it felt like my tongue was on fire, but in a delightful way.
Conclusion
Did it satisfy my craving? Yes. However, I probably wouldn't return just for this curry noodle dish. While the portion was plentiful and the stall owner generous with the ingredients, the masala flavor wasn't pronounced enough to leave a lasting impression. Masala Curry Chicken Noodle also offers a Pork Rib Curry (6.50 SGD) that the uncle recommended I try next time. I might come back if I get the chance, but for now, I’ll look for something closer to home.
