Explore the flavors of Indonesian cuisine at Wedang with delicious Mee Soto and Gado-Gado, starting from just 80,000 VND.
Introduction to Golden Mile Food Centre
Golden Mile Food Centre has long been a vibrant destination, buzzing with energy thanks to its military-themed shops. Nowadays, while the area has quieted down after working hours, it remains a perfect spot for street food lovers, especially at the Wedang stall.
About Wedang
Wedang is renowned for having received the Bib Gourmand recognition from Michelin in 2016. Although it hasn’t maintained this ranking in subsequent editions, the culinary quality here is still worth exploring. I visited this stall to uncover what makes it so highly regarded.
A Tempting Menu at Wedang
The menu at Wedang has seen little change since its Michelin recognition. Currently, they serve five signature Indonesian dishes, including satay, mee rebus, tahu goreng, gado-gado, and soto. I opted for the Mee Soto Ayam (approximately 80,000 VND), but there are also Soto Ayam and Beehoon Soto Ayam available at similar prices.
Exploring the Mee Soto Ayam
This soto originates from Java and features rice noodles, potato cakes (begedil), and shredded chicken in a spicy broth. The broth at Wedang strikes a perfect balance—it's not overly rich but still packed with flavor. The gentle spiciness is delightful, making it an exciting dish to enjoy on a chilly, rainy day.
Unique Broth
The broth of the Mee Soto Ayam here offers a rich umami flavor, transitioning from robust to a light smokiness, with a hint of sweetness and refreshing herbs. Notes of Thai lime, lemongrass, and ginger come together to create a fantastic experience.

Enhance Your Dish with Sambal Kicap
If you prefer a bit more heat, don’t hesitate to add some sambal kicap—a sweet, spicy, and thick sauce that pairs beautifully. The shredded chicken is particularly enticing, soaking up the broth's sweetness.
Gado-Gado: A Distinctive Salad
My companion ordered the Gado-Gado (also around 80,000 VND), which truly became the highlight of our meal. Gado-Gado is a traditional Indonesian salad that includes vegetables, eggs, potatoes, fried tofu, and tempeh. The version at Wedang also comes with lontong—small pieces of rice cake.
Special Sauce for Gado-Gado
The peanut sauce here is irresistible. It’s rich, tangy, and spicy with an ideal texture that complements all the other ingredients, especially the rice cake.
A Memorable Culinary Experience
My friend and I both agreed that the Gado-Gado here is the best version we've ever tried. Even without a Michelin review, we believe Wedang deserves attention. If the original version by Mr. Kamis was even better, it’s a shame I didn’t get the chance to experience it.
Travel Tips for Visitors from Vietnam
To reach Golden Mile Food Centre from Vietnam, you can fly from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi to Singapore. Round-trip tickets are around 3 million VND, depending on the season. In Singapore, you won’t need a visa for short trips under 30 days. The current exchange rate for Singapore dollars (SGD) is about 17,000 VND. Meals here generally start from 80,000 VND, making it accessible for many.
Conclusion and Recommendations
If you’re a food enthusiast wanting to explore Indonesian flavors in Singapore, don’t miss out on Wedang. Make sure to try both the Mee Soto and Gado-Gado for an unforgettable culinary experience.
