The answer is a resounding yes! Garfield Peak is definitely a must-visit spot when you come to Crater Lake. This short trail offers an exhilarating experience, and the scenic views that reward your efforts are absolutely worth it.

In addition to enjoying stunning vistas, you'll have the chance to meet other hikers at the summit. It's advisable to start early, especially on weekends when the trail can get crowded. We visited on a Saturday morning and nearly had the peak all to ourselves.

How to Get There?

The best access point for the trail is from Crater Lake Lodge, which has convenient parking. Here, you can also visit the Visitor Center and the Discovery Point Trail—a shorter and easier walk. If you need restrooms, you can find them inside Crater Lake Lodge.

Interestingly, you can capture beautiful photos right from the walk from the Lodge to the trailhead. The trail is well-marked and maintained, making it easy to follow your journey to the summit of Garfield Peak.

Tips for Climbing Garfield Peak

1. Start Early: This is crucial. The trail is close to the Lodge and can quickly fill up with cars. Getting there early will help you find parking and enjoy a quieter summit.

2. Check the Weather Before You Go: Crater Lake is known for its unpredictable weather, so keep an eye on the webcam for updates. Cloudy days may obscure your view of the lake.

3. Pack Adequately: Make sure to bring water, snacks, and camera gear. The scenery from the top will provide you with fantastic photo opportunities that you won’t want to miss.
