Discovering the Tulip Festival in Washington

Have you ever heard of the Tulip Festival in Washington? It might sound surprising, but this area hosts an extravagant tulip festival that rivals even those in the Netherlands. If you’re looking for an exciting spring getaway, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is the perfect choice.

Held annually in April, this festival takes place in Skagit County, located in the northwestern part of Washington State. While it may not be as far as the Netherlands, this festival offers Americans a chance to admire vibrant tulip fields without having to cross the ocean.

Must-See Tulip Destinations

The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is known as the largest tulip festival in North America. You can explore the festival by driving around the tulip farms or purchasing tickets to enter specific gardens. Enjoying the flowers from a distance is completely free, but if you want to get up close, there will be an entrance fee at each farm.

Here, you’ll find four major locations to view the flowers: RoozenGaarde, Garden Rosalyn, Tulip Town, and Tulip Valley Farms. Among these, RoozenGaarde is the largest, boasting over a million tulips across 50 colorful acres. While Garden Rosalyn is smaller, it features charming highlights such as a pond and a Dutch-style windmill.

Choosing the Right Destination

If you’re considering purchasing tickets, Tulip Town and Tulip Valley Farms are two spots definitely worth visiting. Admission prices at Tulip Town range from $15 to $21, which includes parking and various activities. Here, you can also enjoy seasonal food and drinks. At Tulip Valley Farms, tickets are about $16 to $18, and if you wish to pick your own flowers, there will be an additional fee.

Notably, Tulip Valley Farms hosts a “Bloom Night” experience on select evenings during the festival, which is a delightful way to enjoy time with friends and family.

Easy Transportation

When attending the tulip festival, you’ll find that the Mount Vernon area of Washington is an ideal stop on your journey through the Pacific Northwest. If you visit in April, you’ll need a car, as the tulip farms stretch about 15 miles and festival events are held at various locations.

If you want a truly immersive experience, consider staying overnight. Instead of trying to see everything in a single day, you can find accommodation close to the flower fields.

Recommended Places to Stay

There are plenty of accommodation options near the tulip farms. La Conner and Mount Vernon are two excellent areas to find overnight stays. The La Conner Channel Lodge is located next to the Swinomish Channel, just a short walk from the town's restaurants and shops. It’s also only a 10 to 15-minute drive to the tulip fields.

If you prefer to be right in the heart of town, La Conner Inn is a reasonable choice, close to shops without the high prices of beachfront resorts.

Even More Enjoyable Experiences

For a more relaxing experience, the Heron Inn & Day Spa in La Conner is a fantastic option. Not only does it offer spa services, but it’s also a quiet retreat, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the farms. Each room has its own bathroom, and some even feature cozy fireplaces.

If you want to be closer to nature, consider finding an Airbnb cabin by the lake, offering views of the Olympic Mountains and Whidbey Island. This cabin provides privacy and is a perfect choice for gathering with family or friends during this festive time.
