From that point on, he joined Crystal Cruises and embarked on his journey, arriving in Reykjavík on his 26th birthday.

Josh has visited 116 countries and worked aboard the Crystal Serenity, where he manages the only Monte-Carlo casino at sea. With sparkling chandeliers and a luxurious atmosphere, this space provides an elegant experience without overwhelming guests. For Josh, this isn’t just a job; it’s a significant part of his life.

A Typical Workday

In the casino world, work only begins once the ship is out of port. Days spent at the harbor are usually for resting or exploring new destinations. Even after visiting a port multiple times, Josh reminds himself to step outside, if only for a cup of coffee.

On sailing days, the casino opens at 7 PM. The time before that is when Josh can eat and prepare for a busy night ahead. On sea days, games like blackjack and roulette kick off at 10 AM. His team works diligently to ensure every guest enjoys a fun-filled experience.

What warms Josh’s heart the most is seeing returning customers. They remember his name, and he remembers theirs. He particularly enjoys working with regular guests on long voyages, as they form a small community right on the ship.

Being away from home, especially during holidays, can be quite challenging. Josh doesn’t have children, but he often feels anxious about missing important moments with friends. Thanks to technology, he can still connect and share what’s happening in his life with loved ones.

One unforgettable experience for Josh was meeting an elderly couple, where the husband was battling MS. They frequently visited the casino to play blackjack, and over time, they became friends. On the last day of their trip, they played golf together, a nostalgic activity that deeply moved the man as he reminisced about past times.
