Charlotte Douglas Airport: The Battle of Airport Lounges Begins

Recently, Charlotte Douglas Airport (CLT) has officially entered the battle of airport lounges in the U.S. with some exciting announcements from airlines and credit card companies. According to information from American Express, a new lounge called "Sidecar" is set to open in 2027. This promises to be a fantastic option for travelers looking for quick bites and a more comfortable escape from the crowded Centurion lounge.

A New Arena for Lounges

Not only is "Sidecar" on the horizon, but CLT is also welcoming several new lounges from other major brands. American Airlines, Capital One, and American Express have all unveiled plans to expand their presence here. Notably, Capital One has announced a 14,000-square-foot lounge at the airport, which is set to become the largest in their network.

American Airlines and Their Grand Plans

American Airlines is also joining the fray with plans for a Flagship Lounge exclusively for business class passengers at CLT. This lounge will cater to premium travelers and high-tier AAdvantage members on international flights. Additionally, they plan to expand their Admirals Club network here, which is much needed as existing lounges often reach capacity during peak travel days.

The First Grab-and-Go Lounge in Charlotte

Charlotte is also proud to debut American Airlines' first grab-and-go lounge, named Provisions by Admirals Club. This is an ideal choice for passengers who are looking for quick and convenient snacks while on the move.

The Revival of Lounges at the Airport

Everything happening at CLT indicates that travelers will have a plethora of choices with new lounges set to open soon. The airport has undergone significant improvements, including the expansion of Concourse A, which has paved the way for several new lounges, including Delta's Sky Club that opened in December 2024.

Exciting Lounge Options Ahead

With so many new lounges in the works, passengers will have more options next year, whether they are frequent flyers or just passing through. A spokesperson for the airport noted, "The demand for premium lounge spaces and grab-and-go amenities is on the rise."

Credit Cards for Lounge Access

If you’re looking to join American Airlines’ Admirals Club network, consider the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®. With an annual fee of $595, this card is a more economical choice compared to traditional membership fees.

For those wanting access to Amex's Centurion lounge and the upcoming Sidecar lounge, the American Express Platinum Card® with an $895 fee may be the optimal choice. Although it’s a bit pricey, if you take full advantage of the card's benefits, you can easily offset the cost.

Conclusion: A Bright Future for Lounge Lovers

As the demand for airport lounges continues to grow, this expansion not only brings more choices for travelers but also creates an enticing competitive environment among airlines and credit card companies. The new lounges are sure to enhance the experience for everyone.
