Spending $2,600 on four credit cards might sound steep, but it can be a wise investment if you know how to leverage the benefits.

Credit Cards and Their Costs

I’ve often wondered why some people are willing to pay credit card fees while still feeling they gain more in return. As a frequent credit card user myself, I carefully consider which cards to choose for maximum benefit.

Currently, I hold four credit cards from major banks, with a total annual fee of $2,680. While that may sound like a lot, I find that I more than make up for it through the card benefits.

Utilizing the Citi Strata Elite Card

The Citi Strata Elite card was a smart choice right from the first year. With special perks like earning 6x points on dining during weekends and a host of other benefits, I easily meet the requirements for rewards, significantly cutting down my expenses.

For example, the $300 annual hotel benefit allows me to save quite a bit when booking through cititravel.com. Additionally, I earn cashback on purchases from well-known brands.

About the Capital One Venture X Card

The Capital One Venture X card is incredibly user-friendly. I earn 2% cashback on all my spending, and it also allows me to save $300 on my annual travel expenses. Honestly, the annual fee is completely offset by the rewards points I earn.

While I’m not a fan of all airport lounges, some, like those in Dallas or JFK, have fantastic food, especially bagels and other snacks. That’s why I still prefer using this card when I travel.

The American Express Platinum Card

I have to admit that the American Express Platinum card offers many attractive benefits. When I head to the airport, I want access to the Centurion and Delta lounges, and the costs can be offset by the cashback the card provides.

For instance, the $200 annual cashback for Uber or the $300 for online entertainment services are perks that make me feel like I’m getting my money’s worth. If used wisely, I genuinely receive value from these fees.

Chase Sapphire Reserve: An Essential Credit Card

Last but not least is the Chase Sapphire Reserve. This card is excellent for everyday spending; I don’t need to use the Platinum card to earn 5x points when I can earn 8x points through their payment portal.

I spend about $75,000 annually on this card, and the rewards points generated are enough to cover the card fees. With such attractive offers, this card is definitely worth it.

Conclusion

Although the total annual credit card fees may seem high, I’ve found ways to optimize these costs for greater benefits through smart usage. Ultimately, spending on credit cards isn't just an expense; it can be an investment if you know how to use them effectively.
