Discover the famous pork porridge at Redhill, Singapore, available for just 4 USD. Its quality and flavor captivate every guest.

Introducing Redhill Pork Porridge

Porridge, a traditional dish often overshadowed by a plethora of other vibrant cuisines like char kway teow or yakiniku, still holds a special place in the hearts of many food lovers. Redhill Pork Porridge at the Redhill Food Centre stands out with its steaming hot, nutritious porridge made from the freshest ingredients.

Management and Quality

This porridge stall gained fame under the management of renowned food blogger MissTamChiak. After the previous owner retired, MissTamChiak entrusted a close friend with the management to maintain the quality of the dish. A young and talented team of chefs, including Chef Cao and Chef Kenny, has introduced improvements to the recipe while preserving its traditional deliciousness.

The Porridge Experience

Upon arriving at the stall early in the morning, I was surprised to find no long lines as I had expected. The stall is situated in the spacious, airy environment of the Redhill market, creating a pleasant atmosphere for breakfast. Many visitors come here simply to enjoy the wholesome and nutritious porridge.

Specialty Pork Porridge

Redhill Pork Porridge features only one item on the menu - a large bowl of pork porridge (S$5), with an option to add an egg (S$0.50). While it's unfortunate that youtiao isn't available, the smaller bowl with an egg (S$4.50) is still quite hearty and bursting with flavor. From the very first spoonful, I was captivated by the delicate taste of the pork broth, which was far from bland as I had feared.

Ingredients and Flavor

The porridge is not overly mushy; it retains its texture when chewed. Each spoonful is infused with a hint of ginger, adding a refreshing touch without being overwhelming. A crucial tip is to order the egg to enhance the richness and flavor of the porridge. The slices of liver in the porridge also contribute a distinctive taste to the dish, though I found the liver flavor a bit strong for my liking.

Ending the Meal

Redhill Pork Porridge truly offers an excellent culinary experience that makes anyone want to return every time they visit. Although the stall is a bit far from my home and has somewhat unusual operating hours, I wouldn't hesitate to come back for another bowl of delicious porridge.

Helpful Information for Vietnamese Travelers

To visit Singapore and experience this porridge, you should prepare a visa (which is usually easy for Vietnamese travelers for short stays). Flights from Hanoi (HAN) or Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) typically cost around 3-5 million VND one way. In Singapore, 1 S$ is approximately 16,500 VND, making the porridge quite affordable. If you're not familiar with public transportation, taxis are a convenient option, though they can be more expensive.

If you have the chance, be sure to try other dishes at Redhill, as this market has many delightful treats waiting for you to discover.
