Discover Zvuci Srca: A Café Changing Lives One Cup at a Time
I stumbled upon an incredible café called Zvuci Srca in Belgrade, a place that not only serves delicious coffee but also transforms the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. Since 2019, this café has provided job opportunities for many, helping them develop skills and build a community in the heart of the city.
This café is more than just a meeting spot for friends; it has become an essential part of daily life for the people of Serbia, much like eating and sleeping. The image of people gathering, chatting, and sharing stories over a strong cup of coffee has become a cherished cultural tradition here.
A Warm and Inviting Space
Just a ten-minute walk from the magnificent St. Sava Temple, you can easily find Zvuci Srca. The café boasts a cozy atmosphere with brick walls and comfortable seating, where visitors can enjoy coffee, cappuccinos, or refreshing beverages.
What makes it even more special is that when you leave, there’s no set price—you can choose to donate whatever you can afford. This unique policy makes the café accessible to everyone, regardless of their economic situation.
Artistic Design and Purpose
As soon as you step inside, you'll notice a vibrant display of colorful bags, t-shirts, mugs, badges, and various souvenirs. Each product carries a meaningful message and unique design, many of which are created by the café's staff.

The employees not only serve coffee but also engage in the design and production of these items. All profits from sales go back to the Decje Srce organization, which supports and facilitates the integration of people with disabilities into society.
Discovering Self through Work
One standout employee is Nemanja Jovic, a 31-year-old with autism who has been with Zvuci Srca since its inception. Each week, Nemanja spends one day working at their branch near his home in Pancevo and four days in Belgrade.
This café has given him the chance to express his creativity and showcase his artistic talents. Many of the products sold here bear Nemanja's unique design touch. Standing behind the counter, he feels energized by the diverse crowd that comes from all over the world.
A Unique Donation Policy
At Zvuci Srca, there is no fixed price menu—just a list of hot and cold beverages. This creates a sense of community and welcoming atmosphere for everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Every customer can visit and enjoy a drink without worrying about money.
Many patrons choose to leave a small donation, even just a few hundred dinars, but there’s no pressure to do so. Ana, a social worker at the café, shares that this is the only place in the city where people can feel completely at ease, welcomed, and receive genuine compliments from the staff.
Hope for Expansion
The warm ambiance of the café makes anyone who visits want to return. Ana hopes this model will spread further across Serbia, with the aspiration that every major city will have its own Zvuci Srca where people can gather and connect.
This café not only creates a meeting space but also affirms the value of diversity in society. I am truly impressed by how Zvuci Srca not only survives but thrives, all while bringing meaning to the lives of individuals with disabilities. It’s definitely a place worth visiting on your journey through the Balkans.
