What Makes Boracay Special?
Whenever someone mentions a getaway in the Philippines, Boracay is the name that immediately comes to mind. And it's no wonder, as this destination is renowned for its stunning white sandy beaches. While the Philippines boasts a multitude of other beautiful islands like Siargao and Batanes, Boracay remains the iconic tourist spot of the region.
Boracay's reputation has been solidified by numerous awards from international travel organizations. Tourists flock here not only during the summer but at various times throughout the year. If you're wondering about accommodation, Boracay offers a wide range, from budget hotels to luxurious resorts.
How to Fully Enjoy Boracay?
Many people shy away from Boracay due to the perception that it’s overcrowded. However, I’ve visited and found that with a bit of planning and knowing what you want, you can still have an amazing experience in Boracay. Since the government undertook a renovation of the island in 2018, visiting has become even more convenient.
The best time to visit Boracay is during the dry season, from November to May. The island experiences strong winds, making it perfect for water sports like kite surfing. Although prices are lower during the rainy season from June to October, there’s a risk of storms.

Ready to Head to Boracay?
The easiest way to reach Boracay is by plane. You can fly from Manila, Clark, or Cebu to one of the two airports near Boracay: Caticlan or Kalibo. Currently, due to COVID-19, Caticlan Airport is the only entry point for tourists.
Flying to Caticlan is more convenient but also pricier. From Caticlan, you just need to take a tricycle to the ferry terminal and hop on a boat to Boracay, which takes only about 15 minutes. Conversely, flying to Kalibo is cheaper, but you’ll need to add a two-hour drive to Caticlan before reaching Boracay.
Must-Do Activities in Boracay
While in Boracay, don’t miss out on the vibrant nightlife and the chance to indulge in delicious local cuisine. You can also try your hand at various water sports or simply relax on the beach while soaking in the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
Other Fun Activities
If you’ve experienced all the popular attractions, take a stroll around the island and discover hidden corners that are less frequented by tourists.
Overall, Boracay is more than just a beautiful beach. Who wouldn’t want to immerse themselves in the lively yet laid-back atmosphere of this most famous island in Asia?
