4 Must-Try Eateries in Venice Favored by Locals

When I first set foot in Venice, I was truly captivated. This city has a unique atmosphere that draws you in, unlike anywhere I’ve ever visited. Everything was just as I had imagined: stunningly beautiful and unexpectedly charming. However, what left me speechless was the sheer number of tourists flocking to the city. Even in late November, during the off-peak season, I was surprised by how busy it still was.

With so many visitors, Venice certainly has its share of tourist traps. Luckily, thanks to an incredibly enthusiastic Airbnb host, I was guided to some authentic dining spots favored by the locals. Here are four of his top recommendations.

L’ Bacaro de’ Bischeri – Schiacciata Sandwiches

The first time I tried schiacciata was in Florence, and I was thrilled to discover that Venice offers this delightful bread as well. Schiacciata is a type of Italian flatbread, softer and crispier than focaccia, and I fell in love with it at first bite. L’ Bacaro de’ Bischeri serves an array of sandwiches filled with ingredients like prosciutto, mortadella, and vegetarian options, priced between 10-12 EUR each (as of November 2025).

Cantina Do Mori – Savor Delicious Cicchetti

Have you ever heard of cicchetti? It’s Italy’s take on Spanish tapas, small and packed with flavor. Cantina Do Mori, established in 1462, is the perfect place to enjoy cicchetti along with a glass of fine wine. Rumor has it that the legendary Casanova once courted here. Enjoying a light meal in this historic setting while chatting with a German couple and discovering more about the famous works of Donna Leon was simply wonderful.

Bar All’Arco – Try Unique Cicchetti

Bar All’Arco is another popular bacaro that has been featured on the show “Somebody Feed Phil.” Although the cicchetto with grilled cheese and eggplant that Phil enjoyed is no longer on the menu, I still sampled nearly everything else available. The bacalao and eel cicchetti are two dishes I highly recommend. Each cicchetto costs around 3 EUR (as of November 2025).

Book your ticket to Venice now to indulge in these delicious dishes and take in the breathtaking scenery of this enchanting city.

Antico Forno – Exceptional Pizza

Antico Forno is the pizza place my host highly recommended. With his glowing endorsement, I didn’t need to ask any further; I just went straight there to enjoy. The pizza here is truly unbeatable. Both the thick and thin crust options are worth trying, each offering its own unique flavor.

The thick-crust pizza is pre-made and simply needs to be warmed up, resulting in a crispy exterior and a light interior. The thin-crust pizza, made from scratch, requires a bit more time but the end result is absolutely worth the wait. Antico Forno has a small space, so if it’s busy, consider getting your pizza to go.

Explore Venice's Culinary Scene

All four eateries I’ve mentioned are located in the San Polo area, which is less touristy and perfect for indulging in authentic Venetian cuisine. Be sure to stop by and experience the unique flavors of Venice!
