Discovering Hong Kong
Hong Kong is one of the most unique cities in the world, blending modern architecture with lush nature. The city offers visitors a vibrant yet orderly atmosphere. This is my third visit, and I am continually amazed by its ever-changing energy and character.
1. Ascend to Victoria Peak
Victoria Peak, standing at 552 meters, is one of the best viewpoints in Hong Kong. The easiest way to reach the top is by taking the tram from Central Station. The ride is scenic, but be sure to avoid visiting in the afternoon, as you might face a wait of up to 2.5 hours.
I recommend going during the day to enjoy the views without the crowds. If you prefer not to take the tram, calling an Uber is a quicker and more convenient option.
2. Watch the City Light Up at Victoria Harbour
Victoria Harbour is the perfect spot to take in Hong Kong's skyline. The ideal time to visit is at sunset when the city begins to sparkle with lights, and the boats gliding across the water create a magical scene. Don’t forget to check out nearby attractions like the Kowloon-Canton Clock Tower and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
3. Stroll Along the Avenue of Stars
The Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui pays tribute to Hong Kong’s film legends. Here, you can see the handprints of famous actors and statues, including the iconic Bruce Lee. It’s a fantastic spot for photos and to learn about the rich history of Hong Kong cinema.
4. Visit the Big Buddha
A day trip to the Big Buddha offers a sense of peace and tranquility. This massive statue is set amidst breathtaking nature, where you can walk around and enjoy the fresh air. Make sure to visit the surrounding temples to gain a deeper understanding of the local Buddhist culture.
5. Wander Through Nan Lian Garden
Nan Lian Garden is one of the quietest spots in the heart of Hong Kong. The atmosphere here is serene, making it an ideal retreat for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The gardens are beautifully designed, featuring lush greenery and tranquil ponds.
6. Explore Wong Tai Sin Temple
Wong Tai Sin Temple is famous for its sacred prayers and is frequented by many locals. You can take part in festival activities here or learn about the customs of the Hong Kong people. It’s a wonderful place to experience the local culture.

This area, once a city surrounded by walls, is now a park with lush greenery perfect for outdoor activities. You can relax or engage in sports here, making it a great opportunity to snap some beautiful photos.
8. Snap Photos at Choi Hung Estate and Yick Fat Building
These two locations are very popular among the youth and photographers. Choi Hung Estate, with its colorful walls, and Yick Fat Building offer stunning backdrops with unique architecture. Be sure to capture these memorable moments!
9. Attend Street Events
Hong Kong hosts many exciting street events, such as night markets, art performances, and various activities. This is a great chance to meet locals and indulge in delicious street food from nearby stalls.
10. Learn About History at the Hong Kong Museum of History
This museum provides deep insights into the formation and development of Hong Kong. From cultural exhibits to significant historical events, there’s so much to discover here. Plus, admission is very affordable.
11. Relax at Tai Kwun
Tai Kwun is a modern area that has been transformed from a former prison into a vibrant cultural space. It features not only art exhibitions but also a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy delicious food.
12. Enjoy the Nightlife at Lan Kwai Fong
Lan Kwai Fong is a lively area filled with numerous bars and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to end a day of exploring Hong Kong. You can enjoy tasty drinks and soak in the bustling nightlife of the city.
Must-Try Dishes in Hong Kong
No trip to Hong Kong is complete without indulging in its culinary delights. Be sure to try claypot rice at Kwan Kee or fish balls at Aberdeen Fish Ball King. These dishes are not only delicious but also packed with local flavors that you'll remember long after your visit.
Getting Around Hong Kong
To explore Hong Kong, you can utilize the subway system, buses, or taxis. Traveling by subway is quick and convenient, especially during peak hours. You might also want to try Uber to save time.
Things to Prepare Before Visiting Hong Kong
Before you go, make sure to have enough cash and credit cards on hand, as not all places accept cards. Also, bring a small umbrella, as the weather can change unexpectedly.
Hong Kong is not just a modern city; it is a place rich in cultural values. Every time I visit, I find myself falling more in love with this incredible destination.
